Zhou Qiang, president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), called for strong judicial support for COVID-19-related scientific research at a meeting of the SPC's leading Party members' group held on March 4.
The meeting pointed out that judicial support should be focused on the front line of epidemic prevention and control, relevant scientific research and production of needed materials.
It called on courts at all levels to maximize the function of IPR-related trials, galvanize homegrown innovations and leapfrogging technology, and provide active support for the significant and pressing task of achieving breakthroughs in COVID-19-related scientific research.
The meeting emphasized the importance of implementing the two documents jointly released by the SPC and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) on punishment for illegal and criminal conducts against epidemic prevention and control.
It called for properly handling epidemic-related disputes under the law, preventing and settling disputes at their beginning, enforcing rulings in good-faith and in a civilized way and prudently implementing such compulsory enforcement measures as sealing off and seizing and freezing assets to provide judicial support for precise and phased work and production resumption as well as production of materials needed in epidemic prevention.
The meeting also called on courts to draw on judicial approaches to launch health promotion campaigns, promote the building of the Health China, strengthen legal publicity and provide psychological counseling for the public.
